The Overview

The Problem

Pet adoption platforms often feel like impersonal catalogs, leading to high return rates due to mismatched personalities between pets and adopters. The process is overwhelming for new adopters and time-consuming for rescuers.

The Solution

I designed “Conecta Huellas (PawsyTwins),” a two-sided platform that replaces traditional filters with an intelligent matchmaking quiz. This conversational experience analyzes an adopter’s lifestyle to recommend compatible pets, while providing verified rescuers with efficient tools to manage high-quality applications.

My Impact

I architected the end-to-end user experience, from the initial user flows and wireframes to a comprehensive, scalable design system with both Light & Dark modes. The final design aims to increase successful adoptions, reduce pet returns, and build a trusted community for both adopters and rescuers.

The Problem & The Opportunity

Going Beyond Surface-Level Filters

The joy of adopting a pet is often preceded by an overwhelming and anxious search. Users scroll through hundreds of profiles with little guidance, while rescuers spend countless hours filtering through applicants who aren’t a good fit. This friction leads to user drop-off and, worse, failed adoptions.

The Goal (Framed as “How Might We…”)

  • How might we transform the adoption process from an impersonal search into a guided, emotional journey?
  • How might we save rescuers valuable time by presenting them with qualified and verified candidates?
  • How might we build a foundation of trust and safety for everyone involved?

The Core Solution: The Intelligent Matchmaking Quiz

From Cold Filters to Warm Conversations

Instead of asking ‘what breed?’, I designed a quiz that asks ‘what’s your perfect Saturday?’. This shift focuses on the core of a successful adoption: compatibility.

Quiz flow on mobile: welcome screen, five lifestyle questions, a loading screen and a results screen with compatibility percentages

Designing a Two-Sided Ecosystem

The Adopter’s Journey

The goal is to create an adoption journey that’s simple and welcoming while maintaining a secure environment through essential user verification.

Adopter flow: pet profile, account creation, adopter profile steps, then a profile that is not verified and a verified profile with a badge
Once verified, a badge appears on the user’s profile.

The Rescuer’s Experience

For rescuers, the platform is designed to be an efficient command center. By receiving applications from pre-qualified, compatible, and verified adopters, they can save hours of administrative work and focus on what matters most: the animals.

Rescuer flow: landing page for the rescuer network, choosing between shelter or independent rescuer, and creating a rescuer profile
